It is with a heavy heart that we post today. It hasn't been until now that we could even get past the numbness that we have felt since early yesterday. You see, it was yesterday we learned that a dear friend had passed away. We can't even begin to describe the shock we have felt, as all of you who knew him, have experienced as well.
It was yesterday we learned that our friend, Pastor Jonathan Burgess had passed away. We had the priviledge of serving on staff with Pastors Jon and Corina at Celebration for several years. We were not only associates working together but we were friends. We spent many holidays together, went camping together, family parties and more. Jonathan was such a wonderful person. He and Corina were always so much fun to be around. At gatherings, Corina and I would usually find Jonathan and Rick off talking somewhere when they went missing. He was a man of God and a wonderful husband and father.
While there are so many unanswered questions and so many emotions, what we need to do at this time is pray and support Corina, Lance, Taylor and Riley. The mysteries belong to God and while we are all grieving for our loss here on earth, we do hold on to the promise of seeing Jon again. We are rejoicing that Jon is somewhere in heaven, sitting at the feet of Jesus (probably vacuuming the streets of gold!) but he is in the presence of God.
Corina and family, we love you and are praying for you all continuously. We honor Jon for his life of character and integrity. We are honored to say we knew him and we are blessed that we had the opportunity to have him in our lives.
